Rothbard Graduate Seminar 2025
Rothbard Graduate Seminar is an intense study of Misesian and Rothbardian economic analysis with applications to current research and related fields. Participants discuss a common set of readings with each other and Mises Institute faculty, who give advanced lectures on the material.
The goal is to equip graduate students with a solid understanding of the ideas of Mises and Rothbard, so that they may apply it to their graduate studies and research.
The core text for RGS 2025 is Man, Economy, and State with Power and Market, a foundational treatise in Austrian economics. The text will be supplemented by a forthcoming book by Drs. Joseph Salerno and Patrick Newman on the writing of Rothbard’s treatise, titled Murray N. Rothbard: The Making of a Misesian Economist. The goal of the seminar will be to analyze Rothbard’s derivation of economic theory and his development as an economist.
Welcoming remarks and discussions take place over dinner Sunday, June 8. Sessions begin Monday morning, June 9, and end Friday afternoon, June 13.

Transportation
Scholarships include study materials, meals, accommodations with arrival Sunday, June 8 and departure Saturday, June 13 (accommodation location will be emailed to accepted students). Students are responsible for the cost of transportation to Auburn. Most people fly into Atlanta airport, 100 miles north of Auburn, and use Groome Transportation for shuttle service between Atlanta and Auburn. There are no shuttles to Auburn from airports other than Atlanta. Shuttle reservations can be made after you receive information on the accommodation location.
Scholarship Application Guidelines
Attendance is limited to a small number of exceptional full-time students who are pursuing graduate degrees in economics, history, philosophy, law, political science, and business disciplines and who seek a career in academia or research. Applicants must be current graduate students or provide a copy of graduate school acceptance for the fall. Each applicant must provide a copy of the following: student photo ID, unofficial academic transcript, one letter of academic recommendation, a writing sample, and completed Code of Conduct Agreement.
Important Notes: Please complete the agreement to participate in our student program. The academic letter of recommendation should address your academic strengths that go beyond what is recorded in the university transcript. Particularly helpful are comments on your interest in Austrian economics or Austrian scholarship in general. If you are a graduate student, the letters should address the quality of your research and potential to make contributions in your academic field. If your professor wishes to send this letter privately, it can be emailed to scholarships@mises.org. The writing sample may be a short essay written for coursework, a Mises Wire article, or any other written demonstration of a student’s intellectual proficiency.
