The Science and Public Policy Institute carries this report on a book on global warming for schoolchildren written by Film Director Laurie David and published by Scholastic Publishers, the producers of such staples for American schoolchildren as the Weekly [News] Reader. The book, titled The Down-to-Earth Guide to Global Warming, not only recounts all the statist hype about the impending cataclysm, but contains a vital outright misrepresentation (read: inversion) of the records of atmospheric carbon dioxide versus temperature over the past 650,000 years as presented in a scientific article by Urs Siegenthaler. Siegenthaler’s study reported the lengths of time (centuries) by which increases in global temperature preceded increases in global CO2 concentrations. In Scholastic’s book, however, the report has magically become one of how the CO2 was first, and the temperature followed! I went and checked out Siegenthaler’s study (available on the Web only to academic subscribers, as far as I know), and it is just as SPPI reports. This is how the education establishment helps us raise our children to be good (global) citizens.
