Homer Economicus Hits the Bigtime

The 2014 book Homer Economicus was the subject of a question on the TV show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” The editor of the book Josh Hall put together a very accessible book of essays that explains economic concepts through association with the hit TV show The Simpsons. I have a chapter in the book, “At First I Thought Prohibition Was a Good Idea,” based on one of the show’s best episodes “Homer vs the 18th Amendment.” The book includes contributions from a variety of free market economists including Peter Klein and Per Bylund.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
