The mission of the Mises Institute is simple. We want to spread the ideas of Ludwig von Mises and the scholars he inspired. Ideas that are vital for a free and prosperous civilization.
We do this through our student programs, our popular articles, our podcasts, our vast library of free downloadable books, and our animated videos for beginners.
Online and in person, we attack the state, the political class, and their crony clients—without exception and without apology. We reach more people than some DC organizations with ten times our budget. Our mission has always been education, and it is more important than ever.
Unfortunately, we are attacked for our “intransigence” in defense of free markets just as Ludwig von Mises was.
We are attacked by the Left, who see our refusal to bow down at the altars of socialism and political democracy as a threat to their religion of egalitarianism. They can’t defend the bloodstained history of their ideas, so they try to cancel us with a campaign of lies. They don’t understand, but we do, that property rights are essential for peace and civility.
We are attacked by the Right for our refusal to support their version of big government, complete with its own welfare, warfare, and runaway spending and credit expansion. We understand that economic illiteracy fuels cultural decay and civilizational decline.
We are even attacked by prominent libertarians for not sharing their hostility to faith, community, and nation. We understand that freedom isn’t defended by gaining the regime’s respect but by standing against the regime in all its forms.
Like Mises, we are proud of the enemies we have made over the years—but we’re even prouder of the support we have. It is because of our donors that we can do our work without fear of being canceled. It is because of our donors that we can tell the truth when no one else will.
