Misty Peñuelas

Ms. Peñuelas earned her Bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Texas at Austin in 1995 and her Master’s degree in Medieval History at the University of Oklahoma in 2002. Currently she is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of History at the University of Oklahoma, working in the field of American Indian history. Based on the records of the Cherokee National Treasurer, her dissertation, “From Deer Skins to Dollars: Cherokee Money and the Liberal State, 1700-1900,” is a history of Cherokee money, documenting the origins and evolution of the Cherokees’ liberal, fiscal-monetary state in the nineteenth century. Ms. Peñuelas was a Summer Research Fellow at the Mises Institute in 2022.
