First Catfish, Now Shrimp

Vietnam worries next tariff dispute will be about shrimp (AP): “After losing a major trade dispute with the United States over catfish tariffs, Vietnam is worried about the possible impact on an even bigger market: its shrimp.” Also, from  Radio Australia, “US shrimpers say low-priced shrimp from Vietnam and other Asian and Latin American countries is being dumped on the US market. The Southern Shrimp Alliance, a coalition of eight southern and eastern seaboard states, is considering legal action against foreign shrimp exporters. The US was Vietnam’s largest shrimp export market in 2002, accepting 48 per cent of Vietnamese shrimp exports.”

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
