More Airline Coorespondence

More letters about  The Creation of a Bureaucrat:

I have refused to fly since they have started these humiliating searches. In the 50s and early 60s I flew all over the country armed. Never questioned, never had a problem. I am an EX federal officer, fully trained. Am currently licensed to carry concealed firearms in 25 of the 50 states. There are thousands of retired cops. Here we have a big pool of man power trained and willing to defend public transportation free or for a slight discount on fare. All that would be needed is to make them reserve transportation marshals. I am baffled at the resistance to arming pilots. If you can’t trust an airline captain responsible for 100s of passengers and a multimillion dollar aircraft, who can you trust?

There are several categories of people who could easily overpower a typical airline employee even with out the aid of a gun, knife or box cutter, etc. These people, of course, are the professional boxers and wrestlers, weight lifters, karate black belts and some other athletes.  I’m not saying that these people seek to highjack an airplane, merely that they could incapacitate a stewardess and that they will not be screened out by the current methods. It is hard to believe that a billion Muslims don’t have at least a few athletes who could be lured into this service.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
