Protectionism? They Started it

Protectionism? They Started it

Here is the pot finding a world strewn with black kettles: 2004 National Trade Estimate on Foreign Trade Barriers from the USTR, which is all for other governments giving their citizens the right to buy US products, but does not favor unlimited rights for Americans to buy foreign products, as this EU report points out. As a rule, every bad thing one government says about another is true. If only governments would read and act unilaterally on the reports other governments. As Calhoun wrote: “If other countries injured us by burdensome exactions, it was not reason why we should do harm to ourselves.”

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
