Steel Tariffs Worked, Says Bush Administration

Steel Tariffs Worked, Says Bush Administration

Robert B. Zoellick, US trade rep., is quoted in the  Washington Times: “Frankly, the safeguards gave the industry an opportunity to do what we hoped it would do.” Meanwhile, Zoellick is the leading advocate of “trade liberalization“ with the rest of world, which amounts to demanding that other countries open their border to US imports and investment even as the US shuts its borders to competitively priced goods. Undiscussed: how much money is the Bush machine  raking in from victimized producers who depend on steel as it contemplates whether to comply with the WTO ruling against tariffs?

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
